The focus of 8th grade religion is prayer, Church history and morality. We will start with prayer. This section will introduce various forms and types of prayer encouraging growth in personal prayer life and confidence to go out and lead prayer groups comfortably. Church history will span from the early Church through the Great Schism and the Protestant Reformation up till present day. Then we will move into morality. Some of the topics we will cover include: social justice, Catholic social teachings, morals, ethics, and other social issues. At the end of the course, the students will be able to better understand the Church teachings and the “why” behind what the Church teaches.
Reoccurring themes throughout the year will include: 7 sacraments, discipleship, social justice, human dignity, service, community, and the Sacred Scriptures. Most importantly, we will center our class around the Eucharist, as the Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian life and a sign of the reign of God.
